An Important Notice About Migrating from Amazon MWS to SP-API Arrived

A notice arrived from Amazon addressed to Amazon developers.

It's an important reminder about Amazon Marketplace Web Service (MWS): MWS becomes unusable after March 31, 2024.

The official announcement in July 2022 gave notice that all private MWS developers, including Amazon selling partners integrated with MWS, would ultimately lose access to MWS after specific dates from September 2023 onward. All MWS users must either migrate fully to the Selling Partner API (SP-API) or replace existing app functionality with third-party apps, to avoid interruption to operations.

Prepare for the final retirement of MWS access to the following MWS API sections, scheduled after March 31, 2024:

・Fulfillment Inbound API

The SP-API documentation site, which introduces app development tutorials for SP-API, now appears to support Chinese, Japanese, and Portuguese.

It's welcome that Japanese is officially supported.

Important notice

From October 2, 2023, SP-API no longer requires the use of AWS IAM (Identity and Access Management).

This means developers no longer need to register IAM resources or sign SP-API requests with AWS Signature Version 4. The SP-API app development tutorials present the latest steps for completing migration. For details of the update, please see here.

When we migrated to SP-API, authentication with AWS IAM was required — so this feels like one less step to worry about.

A1. You can prepare for this retirement by migrating your app integration to SP-API, authorizing a third-party public app, or making use of data available directly in your Seller Central account. There's no need to reply to that email.

A2. To check the MWS credentials assigned to your selling account, sign in to Seller Central and go to Developer Central.
